The importance of including plays for teaching English.

Teaching English is not an easy job. Nowadays teachers look for strategies that make people love that language. Nevertheless, it is responsibility of the teachers to guide students’ process in order to develop all their competences. For that reason, teaching literature or performing a play would be an innovative activity that would give us a diversity of possibilities to share knowledge with our students.

Doing those kind of activities in the classroom would allow students to participate and know about Anglophone countries in an interactive way because that would be a project based on the difficulties of the students. Honestly, as a teacher I would carry out this kind of project with students with of B1 level because that would be better to guide the process due to the language level they got. In addition, I would bring them the possibility to choose the tale that they want to perform in order to motivate student’s participation. On the other hand, it is important to highlight the presence of the teacher in the rehearsals because that makes part of the responsibility with the improvement level of their students. Also, literature would be a tool inside the classroom students would learn more about history, representative characters and apply a deep analysis of the play.

To sump up, teaching Anglophone countries of literature or another theme through the performance of a play become a tool for teachers because they can use that in order to obtain a lot of benefits for their students, such as working language competences, teaching culture, history and concepts in an innovative way and developing extracurricular projects in order to put in practice the language in a real context.
